It is an occasional but uncommon occurrence for walk-ons to land starting jobs at Division-I football programs. And
only the most exceptional incoming recruits land starting jobs in their freshman or redshirt freshman seasons.
But Fresno State cornerback Bralyn Lux became one of the rare players to accomplish both with the Bulldogs this
preseason, announced this week as a starter for the season-opener on Saturday.
Lux came to Fresno State from The King’s Academy high school in Sunnyvale (Calif.) where he was a three-year varsity
standout. Lux impressed most as a running back with 170 carries for 1,811
yards as a senior in 2018. On defense, Lux had two career interceptions.
In a 2019 Fresno State recruiting class with 21 scholarship recruits, there was
little known about Lux last season. He walked-on to the team last fall and
quietly redshirted without appearing in a game. And with an unusually large group of five returning cornerbacks with
starting experience, the odds appeared to be long for Lux to see the field this
season. But when the depth chart was released, it was Lux’s name who appeared in the starting lineup.
